Meal Plan Monday

Welcome - and thanks for taking a moment to see what we are having for dinner this week!

My hubby is such a good cook and always comes up with yummy food for us to eat! The extra plus is...he even cooks it!

Monday- eggs, toast and sausge. (remember that Jimmy Dean Heat N Serve Sausage       coupon from last week?) I love having breakfast for dinner. Our family has such hectic schedules in the mornings, it is fun to have a traditional breakfast for dinner occasionally.

Tuesday- Fend for yourself night (leftover, soup, cereal, or whatever the kids can find                 when they arrive home from their various activities. (Also allows Dad a night off)

Wednesday- Soup and Sandwiches- This week is toasted cheese w/ bacon and tomato soup. Yummy on cold winter eves!

Thursday- Fend for yourself night. (I get home late, and 1 son has scouts this night so again it’s leftovers or whatever.) Having fend for your self nights really helps keep the leftovers to a minimum!!!

Friday- (my favorite night of the week) DATE NITE! Usually means pizza and a movie.               The boys get to eat pizza and play games or watch tv in the living room and Dad and I watch a movie in the bedroom with NO KIDS!! (a cheap, yet functional date night!)

Saturday- Chicken breast Sandwiches and chips

Sunday- Pulled beef tacos (didn’t have these last week for some reason.. don’t remember               why, so we rolled them into this week).

Yummy dinners!! What’s on your plate?

Ebates Shopping

I haven't talked about Ebates  much yet, but if you are an online shopper then a shopping portal like Ebates is a great place to start.

I have been needing to get some curtains for my family room. I got a catolog for JCPenny's this week with drapes and home stuff at 50% off with a coupon code (INMYROOM) for an extra 10% off. So I went a looking.

First I went to Swagbucks, (cause you never want to miss out on earning some :) then typed in Ebates,  when the Ebates site came up I typed in JCPENNY and clicked on the link. That's it, that's all there is to it. I shopped to my hearts content, I found the curtains I wanted, them from JCPENNY's site securely and next quarter I will get 3% of my purchase price back from Ebates.

All online shopping I do, whether it's pictures at Walgreens, or vitamins at Drugstore.com, I go thru these same steps. The money adds up! In February, I am expecting a BIG FAT CHECK (that's what Ebates calls it) via Paypal for $27.21. That's for all the shopping I did Oct-Dec of 2010.

Every little bit helps!

COUPONS!!!

Don't forget to print January coupons at COUPONS.COM. January is almost over and the January coupons will be gone too! February is just around the corner and new and exciting coupons will be arriving shortly!

Remember, both Fred Meyer and Winco will accept internet coupons printed this way!

Of course, if you print them from the banners on this site, you will help support this site (thank you in advance.)

Saturday Grocery Shopping Trip

$15.31 for everything pictured.
I had to work yesterday so I didn't get to go shopping until late. I was tired, but I felt like I got some good deals!

I got the TP at Walmart with a $1 off coupon on the White Cloud TP (Walmart brand). It was originally $2 so half price on that.

I used the 6/$10 in ad coupon at Fred Meyer for the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers along with a B5G1 Healthy Choice Frozen Meal from the 1/2/2011 SS Insert. This made each meal $1.34. Great price for a good lunch!

I also got the Kraft cheese from Winco, it was on sale for $2.73, with the  $1/1 off Kraft American Singles. Now I only had 2 coupons, but I needed 3 packages, so I did pay full price for the 3rd. LOL! but all in all it was a great savings!

I did finish my shopping at Winco where I managed to keep my grand total to only $68.93 for the week. Not to shabby if I do say so myself.  I have to say I am very glad Winco is now excepting internet (printable) coupons.

I always make sure to use my reusable grocery bags when I go grocery shopping. This scores me $.06 off my total bill for each bag I use. I usually use between 8-10. This is like a "reusable" coupon for $.48-$.60 per trip. And I never paid for any of my bags. I get my bags from various sources. Some were promo items for attending some function or another. Some were given to me. Others I got from sending in my UPC symbols. I got 2 from JOLLY TIME pop corn this way. I love all my bags, big, small or in-between!

works for me Wednesday

One quick organizational trick that works for me is a daily chore chart.
This is something that I have been doing for years. It makes the weekends so much more relaxing! Essentially I do a few minutes worth of chores every day and then the weekend isn’t overrun by housework.

A typical week looks like this:  on Monday I do laundry usually 2-3 loads and I deep clean the kitchen. In other words, I wipe off all the counters, wipe underneath all appliances, clean out the fridge, and scrub out the microwave.  Takes about 1/2 hour total. (Because I do it every week.. it's not overwhelming!)

Tuesdays is floors. I sweep, mop and vacuum. I also dust and fold and put away laundry. Takes me about 45-50 min.

Wednesdays is bathrooms. I clean both bathrooms and make sure all the towels are washed and cleaned and put away. I also make sure there is fresh linens and supplies are stocked in the bathroom. Takes me about 15 min total.

Thursday is laundry again, 2 to 3 loads, washed, folded and put away. Hard to say how long it takes? As long as the washer and dryer take! :)

Friday is a paperwork day. I pay the bills, do the receipts, file my coupons. I also use Friday’s as a catch up whatever might have gotten missed during the week. Takes between 1/2 and 1 hour depending on how much paperwork has accumulated.

Saturday is errand day. Grocery shopping, fill the gas tanks, pick up prescriptions etc. Any and all errands are done on Saturdays. I try to get up and out the door early so I can be home by noon. Then the rest of the weekend is for fun!

Hobbies, hanging out with my friends and my family, and date night with hubby!

Sunday is Church and family day. Church in the morning, family activities in the afternoon and I get to spend a restful weekend not worrying about household chores!

Consignment Shop Selling

When selling things to a consignment store remember the same rules as when buying:
·  Current style- purchased new within the past two (2) years.
·  New or near-new condition.
·  In Season- No wool sweaters in the summer and shorts in the winter.

Also, The consignment store reserves the right to not accept clothing that do not meet their standards.

Bring your items in on hangers, having washed, pressed or dry-cleaned them. The nicer the items look when you bring them in, the nicer they will look on the rack, the better chance you have of selling them. And selling them is the only way you are going to make money!

Make sure that the store has a contract with you. This is the only way to protect you, the store and to keep everyone on the same page as to how many items you are selling, how much the precentage is and how to get your items back if they don't sell..

Lastly, always pick up your unsold items, at least the first time you use a paticular consignment shop. It lets you see what didn't sell, to know if you were paid correctly and to decide if you and your items will work at this shop.

Consignment selling and shopping can be a great way to stretch your dollars.

Consignment Shopping

Consignment Shopping...What is it and how do you do it?

A good defination for Consignment Shopping is a store that you take your new or nearly new items (usually clothes) to and they sell them for you. After the sale the store keeps a pre-set precentage of what the item sold for.

I have both bought and sold items at consignment. Let's start by talking about buying items. First off, find a store that only accepts items that are
  • Current style- purchased new within the past two (2) years.

  • New or near-new condition.

  • In Season- No wool sweaters in the summer and shorts in the winter.

  • This will insure that you are going to get a great deal, and that it will last you a good long while.

When you go to the store, know ahead of time what you are looking for. I, myself, have bought scrubs and a formal dress for a cruise. I have always been very pleased with everything I have bought and you won't believe the compliments I got on my dress that I only paid $40 for!

Tomorrow, I will talk about how to sell your items in a consignment store.. stay tuned!

    Thanks, Common Sense With Money!

    Grocery shopping today!

     Grand total: $87.17.

Today I went back to Fred Meyer for more of the 10 for $10 on the Tillimook Cheese. I also got a lot of bread for the freezer, some of it was marked down to .49c. I stocked up this week on hot chocolate, and pastas. Both of which were on sale w/ coupons.

My youngest boy is going on an overnight Scout Campout (in the snow!) this next weekend so I picked up a few freeze-dried meals for him along with some beef jerky and corn-nuts. The reason I get the freeze dried food (even though it is REALLY expensive) is that it is very light to carry and easy for him to fix. This is important when you are hiking in a mile!

Next I went to Winco and got the rest of my staples there.

I have noticed the last few weeks thing are going up in price. Not by much, but the tortillas and the cheese especially have gone up just a few cents from what they were last week. Have you noticed prices going up? Leave a comment and let me know!

    Quick Trip

I had to stop by Fred Meyer today to pick up a prescription and it turned into a little bit of a shopping trip for me. I didn't have my coupons with me, but I stopped by the kiosk at the front of the store and picked up the store ad.

In it I tore out the coupon for Tillamook 8 ounces shredded cheese 10 for $10. These go great for a quick addition to dinner and store well in the freezer.  I picked up 10 bags along and a couple of loaves of bread and a gallon of milk. This should last us until Saturday when I do the regular weekly shopping. My Grand Total: $14.49.

    Free Travel Sewing Kit!

Get a Free Sewing Kit!! You can use this for your 72 hour emergency kit or give it to your kid who is leaving for college!

    Thanks Saving Dollars and Sense!

Works for me Wednesday- small steps

Don’t know where to start to organize?
Start small; just take a drawer, a shelf, a corner.
Pull everything out, decide what needs to stay and what needs to go, then everything that goes… move into your designated donation area and then proceed to replace everything that stays.

Put like items together. Use everyday items for storage; be creative in your storage ideas. For example, I use an over-the-door shoe holder in my pantry for packets of coca, spice and other small items.
    Have fun with it!

    Coupons this week

This week I found some great coupons. In Fred Meyers (a Kroger affiliate) ad they had Tillamook Shredded Cheese 10 for $10, Barilla Pasta or Farmhouse Rice or Pasta sides for .79.
I was also excited to see an in ad coupon for Airborne at $4.99. In today's SmartSource coupons, there was a manufactures coupon for $1 off Airborne, making this just $3.99 each. A great price to help keep your immune system supported!

    Grocery Shopping

Grocery shopping this week turned out really well. I spent a total of $65.04 at Winco for all of the above. I was able to get frozen pizza's, Lean Cusine's for my lunchs at work, bread, cheese and bacon for a dinner this week. Milk and chips. I also got 8 cans of Progressive Soup marked down. These will make a good lunch at work or for Joe at home. Also a few extra mayo and ketchup for the food storage shelves.

At Fred Meyer, I spent $61. I know this is a huge amount, but all I bought was vitamins. They were having a BOGO on Nature Made Vitamins so I bought the biggest bottles of vitamins C and D and calcium that I could find.  I also had $1 coupons that I used from last weeks coupons. In addition, I also got big bottles of multivitiamins for myself and Joe. I figure with the amount of tablets in each bottle I have enough supplements to last us for 5-6 months. So that equals out to about $10 a month in supplements. I couldn't buy supplements monthly for that price. Sometimes it is good for your budget to spend more like this to save in the long run.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments!!
