Baby Gift Box WFMW

Gift boxes are the biggest money saver I can think of. You buy things on sale, save until there is a need and then use from your stash. I talked about all the great bargains I got here.

Now I have decided I need a “baby gift box.” I don’t have small children at home, but when I see great deals for diapers/wipes etc, I have been known to buy a package or two to put aside for that next baby shower I am invited to.

I also use the $10 of $10 purchase coupons I regularly get from JC Penny’s. I use them to pick up baby outfits on clearance. I then tuck those away also. And that’s what works for me!

A while back, I posted about all the different uses for plastic containers. (here) Since then, I have come to realize even more uses for plastic containers:

I use them to store my BBQ supplies on the back porch:

I use them to store all my lids for my plastic food containers! (lol!)

I use them for storing swim towels out by the pool!

I use them to store "Top Ramen" in in the pantry!
What do you use plastic containers for?

How to get rid of Fruit Flies

I don't know about you, but those nasty little fruit flies that seem to hover around in the summer time are making an apperance again this year.

My friend J. asked about the best way to get rid of fruit flies. I told her my secret was to first clean the counters well, put food away and clean the sink (allowing soap to run into the drain or disposal. Then, when you are ready to run a load of dishes, load the dishwasher, put the soap in and pour about a 1/4 cup of cider vinegar in the bottom of the machine.
Leave the door open for an hour or so, then quietly close it. Run your load as usual. The flies are killed immediately and are down the drain in the first run off. As long as you keep the kitchen clean, they won’t be back - or at least not for a long time!

If you don't have a dishwasher then you can try this: Put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl with a few drops of dishwashing liquid added. For some reason, this keeps the fruit flies from climbing out of the bowl.

And to help keep houseflies out of your house you can use a baggie filled with water hanging by a string near the doors and open windows. For some reason flies couldn't stand to see their own reflection in the things and would stay away from the area with the baggie. Very inexpensive to try!!

    That's What Works for Me!

Plastic Storage Containers.. not just for the kitchen!

Are your closets overflowing? Is your garage out of control? So was mine. Until I discovered plastic containers.

These plastic boxes come in all shapes and sizes, with and without lids and even differant colors! I use them for everything, from organizing video games and toys for the kids:

     Halloween costumes:
     yarn, sewing supplies:

to storing my Christmas decorations in them.
     And more Christmas decorations!
I even use them for storing paperwork/taxes by the year,
to keeping the bathroom neat and tidy.
I use them in my kitchen for oatmeal packets..
And in my new scrapbooking corner:
    That's What Works for Me!

What do you use to "tidy up" your life?
