How to get rid of Fruit Flies

I don't know about you, but those nasty little fruit flies that seem to hover around in the summer time are making an apperance again this year.

My friend J. asked about the best way to get rid of fruit flies. I told her my secret was to first clean the counters well, put food away and clean the sink (allowing soap to run into the drain or disposal. Then, when you are ready to run a load of dishes, load the dishwasher, put the soap in and pour about a 1/4 cup of cider vinegar in the bottom of the machine.
Leave the door open for an hour or so, then quietly close it. Run your load as usual. The flies are killed immediately and are down the drain in the first run off. As long as you keep the kitchen clean, they won’t be back - or at least not for a long time!

If you don't have a dishwasher then you can try this: Put some apple cider vinegar in a bowl with a few drops of dishwashing liquid added. For some reason, this keeps the fruit flies from climbing out of the bowl.

And to help keep houseflies out of your house you can use a baggie filled with water hanging by a string near the doors and open windows. For some reason flies couldn't stand to see their own reflection in the things and would stay away from the area with the baggie. Very inexpensive to try!!
