August Challange

As part of my ongoing goal to clean and reorganize my house I have decided on an August Challange. (Not that August isn't busy enough! But I wanted to stay on top of my goal to clean and purge!)

The Challange? Get rid of (or repurpose) 6 things everyday.
Day 1-
cleaning out the canisters in my kitchen and I realized I had all these DUPLICATE items! - Out they go!

Ready to Clean with me?
What did you get rid of/ repurpose today?

WFMW -- Coat Closet

I was so pleased with my success with my hall closet, and how short of a time it took me to do, I thought I would tackle the coat closet.

(sorry about the dark pictures. Not sure what happened there,) So the closet is cramped, there are coats/jackets in there that no longer fit or that are needed. I also store a dress bag in there with my formal gowns/wedding dress. (Not that I have any need for formal gowns, but at this point, I am not quite ready to give them up-- I have a granddaughter after all! LOL!) Also there was a set of luggage in there!

So, I pulled everything out, got rid of some coats/jackets and got a new dress bag. (old one was ripped) and rearranged everything:
I added an over the door shoe organizer to hold gloves, hats and umbrellas:

I put the luggage up on the shelf and that helped make more room for the vaccum.
Not a huge change, but at least it's clean, and I know what's in there!

Works for Me Wednesday- Hall Closet.

So I told you earlier this year that I was reorganizing my house, closet by closet! This week I tackled the hall closet. (Not my coat closet... but the hall, I have 2 closets in the hall, a coat closet and a hall closet)

When I opened the door, it looked like this:
Yikes!  I can't believe it let it get this bad!

So the first thing I did was empty everything into the hall:

Then I very carefully went through things, kept some, tossed some and then put what was left back into the closet.

    Much better don't you think?
I'm not done, I want to add a rod and be able to hang some of my out of season scrubs (ie my Christmas ones) in this closet to add some much needed space to my bedroom closet. But a half hour of work and I think it looks great!

Works for Me Wednesday- organizing your nightstand

Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, a place of rest and relaxation. Your nightstand should reflect that and not be so messy and disorganized that you can't find things or that you can't calm down cause you are reflecting on the mess instead of relaxing.

Ideally, the top of your nightstand should be large enough to hold a book, a light, and an alarm clock (and a vase and eyeglasses, if you require them). The nightstand should also have a drawer to conceal items that would detract from your bedroom decor, such as prescription medicines, the television remote, and a small flashlight. If you have a number of medications or other items you use while in bed, consider a nightstand with multiple drawers. A shelf underneath is useful for holding magazines and books to be read. If an item is not used while you are in bed, it doesn't belong anywhere on or in the nightstand.

Hopefully this helps make your room an oasis and a restful, relaxing night! That's what works for me!

    WFMW- Sliding rugs

Ever have a rug that just won't stay where you put it? I did, until my friend Katie gave me a great tip!
Use bathroom caulking to hold the carpet to the floor!
    before
Yes, I was skeptical, but I wanted the carpet to stop sliding! So here's what I did.

I flipped the carpet over, and swept underneath (ew!) I laid the carpet and then I got out the caulking.
I spread a thin line all around the edges and a few thru the middle.
I put extra in the corners, just cause I wanted to make sure it stayed down. I waited about 3 minutes. Enough for the caulking to get tacky, but not dry. Then I flipped the carpet over, positioned it where I wanted and stepped on the edges of the carpet to tap it all down.
The carpet was so big I didn't get it straight where I wanted it at first so I had to move it a bit. Some caulking got in places I didn't want it, but a wet rag cleaned it up real easy.
    That's what works for me!

    Today's Tidbits... Back to School?

It seems like school just got over, but stores are already having back to school sales. You can save a LOT of money if you plan, shop wisely and take advantage of sales!

I always buy more than I think I will because by Christmas/January I am always hearing. "mom I need a new....(fill in the blank)" So if you find a great deal, buy 2 or 3 if your budget allows.
I have a drawer in my craft stuff that I use to hold all these extras. When the kids need something, they can go "shopping" in the drawer, instead of me going shopping at the store! (and paying twice the $$!)

Three years ago I had a bit of extra cash and I went wild at the back to school sales, therefore last year I didn't do ANY back to school shopping.. This year I have to do some, but not a lot. I will probably take advantage of some of the sales.. like this one this week at Staples:  (July 8-14, 2012)

    $0.01 Deals With $5 Purchase:

    Bic Round Stick Pens — $0.01 with a $5 purchase (Limit 2)

    Easy Rebate Deals:

Scotch Super Glue — Free after Easy Rebate
Staples Multipurpose Paper – $0.25 after Easy Rebate
HP Photo Paper – $0.50 after Easy Rebate
