Yearly Fall Chores

Fall is here!

It's a perfect time to look around and see what needs to be done around the house to get ready for winter.  Some things to think about are

  • Cleaning and store your tools and other outdoor items
  • Dipping metal garden tools in a mixture of motor oil and sand serves to clean and lubricate them.
  • Garden hoses, make sure to empty all the water from hoses and to store them in the garage.
  • Clean out and check your car, including tire pressure (which changes at different temperatures.)
  • Cover grills that are left outside. If you wheel a grill into the garage, then make sure to leave propane tanks covered outside since they pose a severe flammability risk.
  • Keep firewood covered in a sheltered area outdoors. Just make sure to keep a space between the wood stack and the outside wall of your home to prevent possible termite or insect damage to your house
  • Rake the leaves and use them for compost.

What do you do to get ready for fall?

"Fall" into a routine

Now that school has been in session for a few weeks and things are starting to get into a routine, here are a few tips to help keep your routine going. If you don't have a routine, now is a good time to establish one. Think about your daily routine and then plan out ways to maximize your time and accomplish your chores efficiently.  For some this means a family calendar.
  • Keep a calendar in a frequently used room like the kitchen to keep track of everyone's important dates and appointments.
  • Include details such as doctor appointments, Scout activities, athlectic events, play dates, and lunch meetings in the week ahead.
  • Put everything on the calendar as soon as it's scheduled.
  • . When school calendars arrive, transcribe the year's activities and holidays onto the family calendar. Do the same for party invitations, business dinners, sports schedules, , and volunteer activities.
  • Everyone in the family should check the calendar for new information daily, add his or her own activities, and update accordingly. I also use different colored markers for each family member so it is easier to quickly see who has what.
Another way to get into routines, is do the same thing on the same day. I'm talking about laundry, cleaning the house (room by room) and dealing with paperwork. For example,
·         Mondays = Kitchen and 2 loads laundry

·         Tuesdays= Floors (sweep, mop, vacuum) and Dusting

·         Wednesdays= bathrooms

·         Thursdays= 2 more loads of laundry

·         Friday= paperwork

·         Saturday= groceries, errands

·         Sunday= rest

Establish things that need to be done every fall.
·         Check the batteries in your smoke alarm.

·         Prune the perennials. Check all landscaping, make sure it's ready for winter.

·         Get your heating system checked; clean the chimneys and fireplace; maintain your hearth.

·         Check your light bulbs and replace with energy efficient light bulbs so you have enough light for the winter.
These are just a few things to help establish a fall routine. What do you do?

Easy way to make money for Christmas!

The Apple Iphone 5 is coming, and if you are thinking about upgrading and wondering what to do with your old phone, here is a great program my friend Allyssabeth of Allyssabeth's Hidden Treasures  told me about:

You can sell back your OLD phone to EBAY thru their Instant Sale program:
"eBay’s electronics trade-in program that offers customers a quick, simple way to sell their gadgets online.

The special offer is available today through Sept. 19 and allows customers to lock-in top-dollar cash offers for their smartphones including up to $400 for the iPhone 4S or $200 for the HTC EVO 4G LTE.

Customers can visit
www.instantsale.com to secure a top-dollar cash offer for their phones – and even get great offers for non-working devices - in three simple steps.

During the special week-long offer period, trade-in offer prices for select smartphones will not decrease.

In addition, customers who lock-in a trade-in value for their phone during the offer period aren’t required to ship their phones until Oct. 1, ensuring they won’t go “smartphone-less” before the iPhone 5 is available on Sept. 21."

I upgraded a month or so ago to a 4s (I love it) and I have my old 3G sitting around. I wasn't really sure what to do with it so I talked to Allyssabetha and she told me about this program. I checked it out and they will take my old 3G phone and PAY ME! Yes, I was offered $100! The will pay me via PayPal, and I will use that for Christmas money!

Check it out! Thanks Allyssabeth!

Mega Swag Day!

Happy Friday!!!

It’s gettng closer and closer to Christmas! Have you started planning?
One of the best ways I have to plan gift giving is to watch my spending. How do I do that you ask? With SWAGBUCKS.

Swagbucks is a search engine, it’s powered by Google and it rewards you for doing something I bet you do every day- search the internet!

Here’s how it works:

Sign up for Swagbucks (thanks for using my referral link ) then every time you need to search the web, use Swagbucks.
You will be rewarded with “digital dollars” save them and when you have 450 you can buy a $5 Amazon gift card. I use my Swagbucks  to redeem for Amazon gift cards, which I then save for the holidays!
It’s easy to get at least 3 Swagbucks a day! Do the daily poll, and do the NOSO (no obligation, special offers) That's a minimum of 90 per month, not counting what you will find searching!

Imagine, really easy saving for Christmas without doing anything more than I do every day! And thanks for signing up under my referral link!

Just 5 minutes....

People often ask me how I can get so much done and how I can be so organized.  I look for 5 minutes..

What? 5 minutes? What can you do with 5 minutes?
Well, I keep a running list of all the big projects I want to do. I know that I will never find the time to get the project all the way done so I  carve about five minutes here and there to do those big major projects.
For example, have you ever stuck something in the microwave for 5 minutes and then stood around the kitchen waiting for the timer to ring? I use those 5 minutes, to  empty or load the  dishwasher.
If I am ready to walk out the door for work, but I don't need to leave for 10 minutes, I will start the laundry or change it.  I use those "random" minutes to do bits and pieces of projects. I didn't clean the whole kitchen in that 5 minutes, but I got a big chuck of the work done. ( I also "race" against the clock-- can I empty the WHOLE thing before it's done?)

Don't worry about how big the task is that needs to be done, it can be done if you just to break it up into small little tasks. For example in my August challenge I cleaned and straightened out the bathroom over four days rather than trying to carve out an hour to do the whole thing.  I spent five minutes here, five minutes there straightening out a shelf at a time.

Don't be overwhelmed by those big projects. All a big project is is a lot of little tasks done over time.
Remember all you need is  five minutes here, five minutes there.

Soft Scrub

Soft Scrub recently sent me some new household cleaners to try. I recieved Soft Scrub Total All Purpose Cleaner and Soft Scrub Total Bath and Bowl.  I have to say I have not tried these products before and I was quite pleased with the results.

I used the Soft Scrub Total Bath and Bowl, first. It can be sprayed foamy or a fine mist. I liked that the foam was really "foamy" - I can't think of a better word to describe it! It was foamy and stayed in place to gently work where I wanted it!  The bathroom came out nice and clean and this product was fast and easy to use.

The Soft Scrub Total All Purpose Cleaner I used in the kitchen. I have a flat top stove and this product worked wonders, a few sprays, let it sit and wipe off. Voila! A really clean stove top!

I love that you can use it as a foam or a spray and it even sprys UPSIDE down! That is awesome for getting into the tough to reach places!

Now for the fun part. I am having a giveaway! Soft Scrub has provided me with coupons for free product to give to TWO lucky winners. All you have to do is enter to win! Just follow the instructions on the widget on the sidebar!
Winners will be sent an email (so make sure you leave one) and will have 48 hours to respond with their mailing address or another will be chosen.

And after you enter, be sure to like them on Facebook in order to learn about new promotions or product updates.

Thanks everyone!

Soft Scrub provided me a samply of the product so I could review them. All opinions are my own.
