WFMW - Easy Recipes

I love my crockpot.. I try to use it as much as possible, and my mom gave my husband a second one for Christmas. We love them!
Some of my favorite reciepes are for the crockpot. I was recently asked to share some of those recipes from my weekly menu on Meal Plan Monday.

The first is Cheesy Crockpot Chicken. This is a "dump" recipe. Meaning I just dump it in and let it go.
  • 4 large chicken breasts (or you can cube the chicken if you want)
  • 2 cans Chedder Cheese Soup
  • 2 cans Cream of Chicken Soup
  • Garlic powder ( I don't measure, I just shake it all over the chicken)
Dump all into crockpot, turn on high for 8-10 hours.. serve over rice or pasta.

The next recipe is for Southwest Chicken. It too is a "dump" recipe.
  • 4 chicken breast cubed
  • 2 cans of corn
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • 16 oz jar of salsa
  • 1 16 oz can of tomato sauce
  • 1 pkg of taco seasoning mix
  • shredded cheese.
Dump all ingredients into crockpot (except the cheese)
cook on low for 6-8 hours
serve with cheese and chips

Last but not least, is Frito Boats, not a crockpot reciepe, but fun nonetheless.
  • 2 cans chili, warmed on stove
  • 1 bag of Frito corn chips
  • shredded cheese.

place chips on plate, cover with chili and sprinkle with cheese (and sour cream.. salsa.. whatever)

Hope you enjoyed my quick easy recipes.

It's the little things...

Little efforts made here and there can add up to big things. Try to get two or three uses out of everyday products.

Here are some examples of things I do:

  • Save the crusts of bread no one eats, and run them thru your food processor - voila! Bread crumbs!
  • Save egg shells to either compost for your garden or sprinkle around the edges to keep slugs and snails away.
  • Use my dryer sheet for at least 3-4 loads, then I use it to clean the shower doors. Just get it wet and scrub! Great on soap scum.
  • Save plastic bags from the grocery store for garbage bags or as packing material in a box you are sending.
  • I get the Sunday papers for coupons.. then I save the papers to line my flowerbeds.. makes a great weed barrier!

WFMW-- Punctuality

I found that I am more effective and efficient when I am punctual. If I need to be somewhere at 9am, then I make sure I leave in time to arrive at 8:50am. This means checking weather/road conditions, knowing the directions on how to get to where I'm going and also making sure that those I'm taking with me are ready also.

I have all the clocks in my house synced up to each other and for my kids, I have added alarms to their phones so that they have a count down as to when we are going to leave. I have also set alarms on my phone to remind me to go warm up the car.

By having simply things done the night before, like backpacks and purses are ready, it is easier to leave when it's time with out a last minute scramble.

That's what works for me!

Today's Tidbits- Cheap Classic Rock!

Amazon has  selection of $0.69 Classic Rock MP3s, including More than a feeling, By Boston. Should I Stay or Should I go by The Clash.

Twightwad Tuesday- MTurk

I don't think I've ever talked about Amazon's M Turk. This is short for "Mechanical Turk." MTurk is a place for businesses to find workers and a place for workers to pick the "hit" and work on their own time frame.

In a nutshell, you make money by working on "hits." HITS are Human Intellegence Tasks. As a MTurk worker you can work from home, choose your own hours and get paid.  Browse through the HITs and click on the one that interests you. Accept the HIT and follow the instructions. When you're done, submit your work. After the requester approves your work, money is deposited into your Amazon Payments account.

You can choose to have your payment sent to your Amazon account or deposited into your bank account. I have done both and have had no problems.

I like MTurk for the simplicity of it. You can work as much or as little as you want. I usually find surveys to do, don't take much time and pay an average of $0.20 to as much as $1 per survey. Some tasks are super simple and require very little time and you are paid literally pennies, and some take more time and are paid more.

You won't get rich doing MTurk. I have been doing it for 3 years this next month and I have earned $264.18. I don't put a lot of time into it, and I don't do it everyday. But those pennies and dimes add up. Try it out, might be something you can do for your family.

Today's Tibits!

As you all know by now, Swagbucks is my favorite  to earn free money online, and I love that there are so many ways to earn Swag Bucks. Here is my post about why I love it so much.

The folks at Swagbucks like to have fun and one way to do that is to have a Swag Code Extravaganza. They will be celebrating the month of January with a bunch of Swag Codes, this Tuesday January  22. If you can get them all, you’ll have an extra 65 Swag Bucks at the end of the day.

If you’re new to Swagbucks, now is a great time to join because right now, new members get 70 additional bonus Swag Bucks when you join here and enter the code JANTASTIC – since all new users get 30 Swag Bucks upon sign up, you’ll start off with 100! That puts you well on your way to the 450 Swag Bucks you need to get a $5 Amazon gift certificate. Enter the code exactly as it appears with no spaces

Finally Friday!!

Finally Friday!!! And that means it's Mega Swag Bucks Day!!

As you know, Swagbucks is one of my favorite ways to make a little extra. It's easy and free to do.

You can easily earn $5 per month in Amazon gift cards with almost no effort. However, if you want to earn more in a shorter time period, I highly recommend checking out Swagbucks TV — especially if you spend a lot of time working on the internet every day. You can increase your earnings significantly by watching Swagbucks TV each day while you’re working online — or through their Smartphone apps. All you have to do is sign up (thanks for signing up under my referral link!)

Works for Me Wednesday - January todo list.

January is a good time to review household items or services that are only done once a year.

1. Replace batteries in smoke detectors. Even though these units should be checked monthly, the batteries should be replaced annually no matter what. It is very important to make sure that these units will function correctly should a fire occur. I have first-hand knowledge of a kitchen fire starting and no one knowing because the batteries were not checked on a regular basis. Not a pleasant experience.

2. Review  your insurance policies. As insurance policies come due for renewal, it is a good idea to check that they still adequately cover the household needs. This is particularly true for home contents and/or building insurance, where major purchases or renovations during the year may have significantly altered the amount items should be insured for. Make changes to your deductible if your circumstances allow. If you are able to increase it, do so. You will save more in the long run on premiums. Also, renewal time is a good time to make sure that insurance policies are competitive and good value for money by comparing those offered by two to three companies. Let your agent know you are doing this, he may be able to get you a hidden discount.

3. Organize a pest inspection and/or pest service for the house. Get your chimney cleaned, and schedule for your gutters to be cleaned. All once a year maintenance should be scheduled and planned for in January.

Tightwad Tuesdays What to buy when.

Ever wonder what is the best time to buy things?

Here is a quick list of what to buy when.

January: Look for travel deals. Many hotels and airlines are looking to entice travelers with warm weather adventures in the cold  months.

February: Furniture. Many retailers want to get rid of last years designs to make way for the new designs which come out in the spring.

March: Sports Stores. Same as furniture. Retailers want to clear out the old to make way for this years.

April:Thrift Stores. Why you ask? Lots of folks clean out the closets this month and donating. Go treasure hunting in the thrift store!

May: New Mattress. Same story, retailers wanting to get rid of last years models to make way for new inventory.

June: Household items.  June is a big wedding month so lots of department stores have sales geared toward gifts for the bride and groom. Get discounts with or with out a wedding!

July: Power Tools. - Prices plummet after Fathers Day.

August: Swimwear. End of season.

September: Lawnmowers and yard equipment. Retailers want to make room for winter gear.

October: Anything outdoors. - patio furniture etc.

November: Electronics. Take note of Black Friday and Cyper Monday specials.

December: Cars. Dealers want to boost end of year sales.

Hope these tips help!

Works for Me Wednesday 1/9/13

It's the first of the year and time to do a little house cleaning/organizing. None of the following take very long, but I try to take a day early in the year to do all these little, once a year tasks.

  • Flip your mattress to eliminate a groove from sleeping in the same spot; this is better for your spine.
  • Replace your emergency water supply.
  • Check your pantry for emergency food supplies (and make sure you have a non-electric can opener).
  • Check your light bulbs and replace with energy efficient light bulbs so you have enough light for the winter.
  • Bed pillows should be replaced every one to two years. Check your pillow, too soft? Too hard? Lumpy?  Also your pillows will last longer if kept in a pillow protector pillowcase underneath the general pillowcase.
I did all of the above in about 4 hours the other day. Doesn't take much time and you will be glad you did.

Tightwad Tuesdays

Welcome to the first installment of Tightwad Tuesdays!

I want to start off with my best advice for making a bit of extra money easily and quickly.

It's Swagbucks. I know I mention Swagbucks alot, but that is because it is so easy to do. If your goal is to pick up a bit of cash you can cash your Swagbucks for PayPal cash, but if you want to get the most bang for your buck,(pun intended ) set your sights on the $5 Amazon gift cards. You only need 450 SB to get each $5 Amazon card.

It's a new year, why not set your goal to earn as many Amazon cards as you can and use them for NEXT CHRISTMAS!- Wow, wouldn't it be awesome to not spend any money next year for the holidays? For 2012 I actually did 90% of my Christmas shopping on Amazon with giftcards I had earned from Swagbucks.

So, how do I do this? I do the daily poll, the NOSO's and I also watch videos on Swagbucks TV. (usually with the sound off and another window open.) Of course I have to click back and forth between windows, but I'm already on the computer so why not? It's simple, easy and - I just won 3 Swagbucks by "watching" videos while I'm typing this post! My goal is 30-50 SB per day as my time allows.
