Tightwad Tuesday- alternative uses of common household products

TightWad Tuesdays

Here are some alternative uses for everyday  products you probably have in your home already.

Got a scratch on a dvd or cd? Apply toothpaste to a cotton ball and wipe the disc. Wash with water afterwards and you’ve got a brand new disc!

Little kids drawing on the walls? You can wipe the walls with rubbing alcohol to make permenant marker marks disappear quickly.

Dirty windows? Instead of using a spray and a streaky cloth, use only newspaper to clean off your mirrors and windows for a streak-free finish.

Vinegar is a magic wonder when it comes to gardening. It kills weeds without a lot of harsh chemicals. Douse vinegar all around your garden to prevent weeds from popping up.

Toss whole slices of lemon into the garbage disposal then run it. The acidity of the lemon will rid your sink of all odors and leave a fresh scent that usually lasts for a few months.

Collector Bills!

Swagbucks always has fun promotions.

Right now till the end of April they are releasing a brand new set of Spring Into Action Collector’s Bills. What are Collector’s Bills? For those who may not know, Collector’s Bills are a set of Limited Edition Swag Buck bills that you can win by using Swagbucks Search. When these bills are active, sometimes instead of earning a normal Swag Buck win, you’ll win one of the Limited Edition bills.

Have you found any of the Spring Collector Bills?

They are a set of 6 bills, each representing a different Swag Buck value and a different earning action. If you’re lucky enough to find all 6 Spring Into Action Collector’s Bills by the end of April, you’ll be awarded with a bonus of 20 Swag Bucks!

But don’t forget to do the daily poll, and the NOSO (no obligation, special offers) and use the toolbar for an easy 4 bucks per day! That's easy 120 bucks a month for only 3 minutes of your time!

Tightwad Tuesday - using coupons and sales!

TightWad Tuesdays

Just wanted to show you all how combining sales and coupons can really save you money.
Take a look at the picture below,

Take a close look, I paid a total of $8.99 out of pocket for EVERYTHING on the table. How did I do it you ask, let me tell you.

The jacket was at JC Penny, on the clearance rack marked down to $20. I had a coupon for $10/$10 purchase making the jacket $10. I was lucky enough to have a gift card from a friend that I hadn't used all the way and I paid the balance with the gift card, making my out of pocket $0.00

All the Bath and Body product was also purchased with coupons and gift cards. 1st, I cashed in some credit card reward points that were about to expire for a $40 Bath and Body gift card. I then made 3 seperate transactions.

1st one was the 2 boxes of Wallflowers on sale for $6 each and a bottle of lotion. I used a coupon for a free Signature Collection Lotion when you spend $10. - Total out of pocket (oop)- $12 paid with the above mentioned gift card.

2nd transaction was the 6 Pocketpac's. They were 5/$5. I used a "Free Pocketpac" coupon and a 20% off entire purchase coupon making this transaction $4 paid with the above mentioned gift card.

The 3rd transaction was the 5 antibacterial soap and the desk antibacterial soap and the travel size lotion and the cover for the soap. Soap was on sale for 5/$15 for the large one, the smaller one was $5, and the small lotion was $3.50, and the soap cover was $7.50. Total before coupons was $31.
I had a coupons to get the lotion for free and 20% off entire purchase making my total $22, again paid with the above mentioned gift card. Total I paid $38 with a gift card and still have $$ left for another time. (Most of the Bath and Body stuff I put in my gift box)

The tank top was at Coldwater Creek, marked down from $29.99 to $19.99. Everything in the store was on a 30% off, making it $14.95. I then had a coupon (from my mom, Thanks mom!) for another 40% off making the total $8.99.

And that's how I use coupons and sales to make my $$ go further!

Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Giveaway!

Lets face it cleaning the bathrooms and paticularly the toilets is not my favorite job. If you like to do it.. great, come clean mine also! LOL!

So when Soft Scrub sent me their new product 4 in 1 Toliet Care, I jumped at the chance to try it.

This toilet bowl cleaner is different than most. It cleans with each flush. It hangs over the rim of the toilet and with each flush the water activates the cleaners. It prevents buildup, fights toilet bowl ring and freshens up to 4 weeks.

I deliberately hung this product in a toilet bowl that was dirty. It's been there for 2 weeks. Now while I haven't seen the bowl as a whole get "cleaner," I have noticed that the spot the 4-in-1 is hanging is really clean and the bowl hasn't gotten any "nastier."  For less than $2 at Walmart, not a bad product.

Now,  for the fun stuff. Soft Scrub has given me coupons for free Soft Scrub products so you can try the 4-in-1 for yourself, or try another Soft Scrub product. To enter, please follow the directions on the widget on the sidebar.  You will  have several chances to enter and I will have 3 winners! Good luck and happy cleaning!

UPDATE: Soft Scrub is proud to introduce the Brighter Bowl Sweepstakes featuring NEW Soft Scrub® 4-in-1 Toilet Care! One lucky winner will receive $1,000, while 250 second place winners get to try NEW Soft Scrub® 4-in-1 Toilet care for FREE!  Just go here to enter!

Soft Scrub brand provided me with a sample of Soft Scrub 4-in-1 Toilet care in exchange for a review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Tight Wad Tuesday... March Roundup

TightWad Tuesdays
It's the time of the month when I get to encourage you to think outside the box for ways to financially help your family. Here are some of the things I do to help my family:

This month was a bit harder for me. I had lots of things happen and not alot of time to spend on my "extracurricular earning."

I only donated plasma 1 time this month. That took about an hour and I made $20.

With my Amazon Seller account, I sold a few items and made $3, for about 1/2 hour of my time.

Mturk was a nice chunk for March.. I earned $ 8.93. Spent about an hour total. I like Mturk because I can choose to have my payout in cash to my bank account or deposited into my Amazon account. For March I am choosing to not cash out and roll it into April. I really don't want to cash out till it's about $50. (Right now it's at $24.13.) I also notice with Mturk  that I really concentrate on it early in the month and then toward the end of the month I start slacking.. Gotta find a way to stay focused :)

Instant cash sweepstakes was a small amount, but for the minutes I put into it, it is worth it. Since the payout amount is only $2 it doesn't take long to reach it. In February I earned. $0.58. Combined with what I made in January, I have a total of $1.69. Still not enough to cash out, but this literally takes only 2 minutes a day! And by small amounts big things happen! :) As with Mturk, I seem to really do well at the beginning of the month, then slack off here also. Not good. But I will be better.

Win 100K credits.Bing rewards is a lot like Swagbucks. By spending just a few minutes per day, you can easily earn a $5 Amazon gift card every month. You start a free account and for every 3 searches using Bing, you earn points. You can earn up to 30 credits per day by searching. They also often give you "daily tasks" which are quick and easy way to earn more credits. My total for March was 1308 credits this is enough for 2 $5 Amazon gift cards.

Irazoo is also lot like Swagbucks. It rewards you points for completing offers, surveys, watching videos, playing games, and other tasks. Points can can be exchanged for gift cards. It takes 3000 points to earn 1 $5 Amazon gift card. Points are fairly easy to earn. The downside to Irazoo is it takes about a month after I request the codes to get them, which is kind of slow. In March I earned 7200 points, cashed out for 2 $5 Amazon gift card. I also start April off with a nice cushion.

My Jingit income for March was $2.65. I can cash this onto a prepaid card I can use anywhere.
Jingit is a newer income-earning program that pays you to watch videos online. You can also earn money for downloading the mobile app, scanning items at Walmart, and answering a couple of questions. Since they are fairly new, the earnings are still quite low. But $2.65 is great for  only about 10 minutes of my time.

My favorite way to earn money is Swagbucks. in March, I earned 3585 Swagbucks,(just a smidgen more than in February) Again this month, I have enough for 2 $5 Amazon gift cards, and a $25 PayPal credit. I debated between the two. I like the Amazon Gift Cards, but it is nice to have a little something in my Paypal account also. Dollar wise, still the same amount. $25 and $10 or if I were to get all Amazon cards, would be $35 worth there.

My total rewards was $90.16 My time invested was approximately 16 hours. That's $5.63  per hour. I will never get rich doing this stuff...but every little bit helps.

What do you do to make a little extra cash?
